When you need this

Sharing a contract or a quote

A contract copy with a company name, phone number and bank account on it.
If the other side only needs the terms, there is no reason to show the rest.

Submitting supporting documents

A residence certificate, an employment letter, a bank statement PDF.
It is safer to mask whatever the recipient did not ask for.

Getting a document reviewed by AI

Mask the personal information in a PDF before you paste it in,
and the document structure stays intact while the content stays safe.

Why a black box isn't enough

An annotation covers it. It doesn't erase it.

Text covered with a shape or a highlight in a PDF editor stays in the file underneath.
It surfaces the moment the recipient drags to copy the text or deletes the annotation.
Garimi converts the page to pixels on save,
removing the original text under the masked area from the file itself.

How to redact a PDF

Four steps, start to finish.

  1. Step 1

    Open the PDF

Open it in File mode in the workspace.
The file is never uploaded — everything happens inside your browser.

  2. Step 2

    Review what was found

Candidates like phone numbers, emails and Resident Registration Number patterns are found and flagged automatically.

  3. Step 3

    Drag to add more

Drag over anything automatic detection missed to mask it yourself.

  4. Step 4

    Save

The masked areas are saved with the pixels themselves changed.
No method can recover the original from the saved file.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from drawing a black box annotation on a PDF?

A shape or highlight annotation in a PDF editor leaves the original text in the file underneath — it can surface again if someone drags to copy the text or deletes the annotation.
Garimi converts the page to pixels on save, removing the original text under the masked area itself.

Is the file uploaded to a server?

No. Opening, detecting, masking and saving all happen inside your browser.
The file is never sent to any server.

Can I undo a masked area later?

Before you save, yes — undo works normally.
Once saved, the pixels have already changed and cannot be restored, so keep the original file separately.

Is there a cost or a sign-up?

No. Open the link and use it for free — no account, no install.
